Own Your Space: Adaptive Self-Defense with John Settles
John Settles has 18 years of martial arts experience. He has also trained in contemporary self defense, including conflict resolution and de-escalation to compliment the more traditional self defense practice.
He is devoted to self defense as a tool for liberation, and the ways people of all ages can protect themselves using peace when necessary, and more when we must.
This workshop is based on a self defense philosophy built on these pillars:
1. You are worth defending.
2. The primary goal is escape/to disengage
3. Expect injury, be prepared not to freeze.
4. Never give up.
Participants will work with partners to practice some basic functional, versatile and sustainable strikes that are easy to practice at home. We will finish with a few basic escape techniques from a wrist grab.
