Embodied Memories: Contemporary Dance with Nicole Pedraza

This open-level contemporary dance class is for anyone that wants to explore movement, feel connected to their body, and release some energy and emotion.

Nicole Pedraza: “We will be gentle to our bodies and mainly focus on the play of movement impulses brought by music and prompts embodying memory, ancestry, and community. We will warm up our bodies and minds, create some heat from the inside, and let that guide us throughout. We will focus on individual guided improvisation heavily influenced by the music and then expand our focus to others, exploring contact improvisation and finding physical and emotional connection with each other.”

Participants are encouraged to process the movements through journaling and observation is always an option.

Visual artists can participate in the workshop by drawing the dancers as well.
